First Communion With St. Josephine Bakhita Parish

I love photographing events. Whether it’s a wedding, bridal shower, or a family member’s 90th birthday party, there’s something incredibly special about being a part of an important moment that, despite how hard we try, still remains fleeting. Despite all the planning, the emotional (and sometimes financial) preparation and investment, the moment will pass. But the entire time I’m behind that camera going, “What would I want to remember?” Ten days from now, five years, twenty years. For example, the shot of this little miss coming up the stairs in her communion dress- perhaps one day she’ll take a replica photograph in her wedding dress up those same stairs. Or the lovely stuffed cat that travels by her side everywhere right now- one day she’ll share these photos and say, “I took that cat everywhere. I even got a matching dress and necklace for this occasion.” These are the things I think about when I’m shooting events.
