Kelly & Tom – Traverse City Wedding At Twin Lakes

Disclaimer: It was hard for me to write this post and not have it sound like I was just blabbing about me and my feelings, but I’m particularly close to this one and it was hard not to talk about it.

I almost cried when I saw Kelly in her dress last weekend. Kelly and I went to middle school together. I had crooked teeth and she had short hair. We had the same love for anime, held belching contests, and were nerds that went to Science Olympiad together. We were convinced we were going to marry Duo Maxwell and Heero Yuy, respectively. Then we entered high school and everyone told us we were “growing up”, but I never felt any different. We both had braces and took the same classes and played endless video games. When we walked together during graduation everyone told us “we were grown women”- but again I still felt the same. We still laughed at the same jokes, giggled about boys, and still wouldn’t shut up about video games. And this feeling stayed with me, even when we were out on our own. Even after university or “adult jobs”.

At one point Kelly’s husband Tom was my roommate, and I remember telling her that she should just come over and meet him. That he was smart, funny, sweet, and liked video games. (And he happened to be single.) Well, she came over to visit (read: play video games) and I introduced her to Tom, who smiled and shyly stuck his hands in his pockets when he saw her. They’ve been together ever since.

Now, five years later, while watching Kelly walk down the aisle to music from Chrono Cross, I was overwhelmed. Before me was a grown woman preparing to pledge her heart and devote herself to the love of her life. And what an incredible woman she grew to be.

To Mr & Mrs Haug, may your joys be endless and sorrows few.

And a special thanks to Tom (my Tom) for taking that last photo of me getting my groove on. We were dancing to either Ducktales or Mighty Morphing Power Rangers at that point. (And we still laugh about how we both wound up devoted to a Tom. Perhaps we are still children at heart.)

Stumbled across your blog a few weeks ago thanks to pinterest — loving this post in particular. I always wanted a fall wedding, but couldn’t have one due to my teaching schedule (our July wedding was wonderful, but I still pined away for the lovely shades of turning leaves). I adore her cardigan! The twinkle lights! The cakes! Beautiful all around. Thanks for the loveliness. 🙂

    They look so sweet together!

So crazy that you two ended up with Toms, haha! I’m glad that you wrote so personally because it made these images that much more special. It’s so crazy to watch best friends get married. Like, really, are we old enough to be doing this?

Her bouquet is EXACTLY what I’m looking into for my wedding! Seriously, look at my inspiration bouquet: http://pinterest.com/pin/159543235/

CHRONO CROSS MUSIC AT A WEDDING? Beautiful. What I love about your photography is the strong emotional connection you seem to have to your subjects. Your friend looks gorgeous, and I love the little story about the way you two grew up together. Nerdy girls for life!

Yeah! I forget which one it was exactly now, but it was awesome. And the flower girl and Tom and his parents walked down to “To Zanarkand”! (And I walked down the aisle to the music box version of Radical Dreamers!) Gamers forever.

And thank you so much for the comment about my photography.

      xoxo

Ah, l’amour! 🙂 I love seeing childhood friends get married, it really does make one reflect on time passing and hopefully cherishing the moment we’re in knowing it too will be gone soon. And, the reception is TOTALLY my favourite part of the wedding.

This is so sweet and wonderful. You really made me “awww” outloud. It’s beautiful and lovely and heartwarming. At the same time, it makes me sad for the friends that I held so dear that have drifted away. Sometimes you can’t get it back… but it’s nice to see those that still have it! :]

Sara, just when I think you can’t top yourself – you go and do it again! 🙂

What beautiful photos and what a lovely a day! It must be so heart warming to not only witness this event, but to play a special part in documenting it! I particularly like the shot where he holds her face and kisses her – you can feel the love and warmth radiating through the screen. You have such a gift!

And I love that your sweetie got a picture of you dancing! The movement is perfect!

I had no idea you and Kel had this kind of history. I really loved reading you talk about it. 🙂 I know we’re fantastic friends now, but it makes me wish we’d met in person when we were much younger; we would have had SO much fun together playing video games and being nerdy. It’s amazing how many things we had in common growing up. I laughed my butt off at your line about Duo and Heero; I was TOTALLY that way (Duo for me) but only had friends online to geek over about it. Haha

These photos are fantastic! Of course, I’m a little biased, but these are gorgeous fo’ sho’.
