The Whisketeers

The Skinny Cat Walk

Hello everyone. It’s Morn, in case you couldn’t figure it out. (I don’t know why that woman insists on posting my picture all the time. I mean, shouldn’t she be posting more of her? I tell her this and she rolls her eyes. This is the same woman who thinks the nicknames she uses for me are endearing. Pretty sure if I called her “Fatty” and “Kujira” (which is “whale” in Japanese), I don’t think she’d find it very endearing. Which is actually why I’m writing here today.

I’ve been on a diet since January, and I’ve been miserable. Everywhere I turn is food I can’t have. The counters, the cupboards, sometimes THE FLOOR. But today I “officially” reached the finish line at 12.6 lbs. (I started at 16, which is supposed to mean something too.)

I’ll admit, I have been feeling better lately. You know, playing more, cuddling more, and feeling better about my body image. I guess I could thank them for supporting me through this tough time. I’m just glad we celebrated.
(With treats.)

She tries to smother me to death with her hugs, I swear.
And finally the obligatory comparison shot…

Yeah, I guess you could say I’m feeling pretty sexy right about now.

Looking good Morn! and I see that you are just as good and entertaining of a writer as your mom (er owner, i mean) is!

My name is Crackers & I’m a canine, although I do like playing with you cats. I was overweight too because my mom fed me according to the directions on the bag – turns out it was too much! I’ve lost about 8 pounds and feel FABULOUS now! I can even join my mom on long walks and runs (well, she calls them runs, I barely get my paws moving past slow menader) around the neighborhood!

Hi Crackers! I grew up with two dogs as a kitten and boy you guys are the best! It’s funny how the dry food bags recommend SO much when almost always it’s too much! Congratulations on losing 8 lbs, though! It feels good to know our caretakers really care about us, doesn’t it?

Oh wow, what a transformation! He looks great!
One of our cats is…erm, pleasantly plump. We have no idea why, because he lives outside mostly and eats exactly the suggested servings of food. Maybe he is just extra lazy. *sigh*

The amounts on the dry food bags are actually really high. An adult male cat should be about 10-13lbs. We’re like people, every cat is different so maybe your cat doesn’t need the suggested amount. (Plus, you never know what else he might be catching outside.)

Morn, what did you do to diet? Did you limit your food intake or did you change foods? Gray Ghost has become a little…plump since he’s not allowed outside anymore and I was wondering what worked best for you.

Sorry if this is a long reply! A lot of research went into food and nutrition before I went on my diet and during the diet searching we discovered that apparently dry food is actually really bad for us. And that a lot of vets know the ins and outs of our bodies but not nutrition, since all that is taught in vet school are the classes paid for by the dry food companies. Also, dry food tends to be very fatty and addictive (even the best kinds). So after that, both Pumpkin and I were put on mainly a wet food diet. But my diet was created using caloric intake. Between the two of us we eat one can of wet food a day. (1/4 of the can in the morning each, 1/4 at dinner) At lunch we have a little less than 1/4 a cup of dry food. I started out eating a lot more because that’s what I was used to, and then was slowly cut back so that I was losing weight. And now I’m maintaining at my new weight. I hope this helps!
